A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.” (Proverbs 15:4 KJV)
A lot has been said and taught about the power of the tongue in the word of God that those who take heed should seriously consider this subject. Your tongue (the words you speak) are so powerful they can make or break you. Solomon, a man of much experience and wisdom in his life here warns us and says perverseness of the tongue is a breach in the spirit.
‘A wholesome tongue is a tree of life’ he says. This is a tongue that has learnt wisdom and to speak and declare only God’s word. The thing is, your tongue has a direct connection to your spirit man so the things that you say or agree with using your mouth, you are approving them in your spirit. The word clearly urges us to guard our hearts with all diligence for out of it springs the issues of life.
Don’t be a person used to just mental consent to the word of God, let it penetrate your spirit being and declare it even in situations that demand you to speak otherwise! Choose only the word and it has the capacity to transform your life. You have the power to channel your life on the right way using your tongue. A tree of life means that your life itself will experience the fullness of God’s promises and these will also spill over to other people.
James says that the tongue is a small member of the body but is capable of greater things. It is like a little fire that burns the whole forest. You have a choice, to take the word of God and stack it in your spirit. You have a choice to change your language and speak the word of God only even in times of adversity. It is easy to declare your symptoms using your tongue. You can argue; but that is how I feel but the truth is it’s not about feelings but about faith. It is easy to declare that you are poor and have nothing. It might seem a natural fact but the truth of the matter is that fact is the word of God not the circumstances we find ourself in. It is the word that never changes. Circumstances do change all the time.
Teach your tongue to be wholesome so that it can be a tree of life for you producing good fruit constantly not only for you but those around you. When you train your tongue, you can be a blessing to the world around you.
I pray for you that these words may touch your heart and abide in it to the extent your tongue may learn to speak the word only despite the circumstances.
Lord I repent for words spoken that are not in line with your word. I reverse every word I spoke that has become a breach in the spirit. From today I choose to speak the word only in Jesus’ name.
