Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:16 KJV)
The sacrifice by our Lord Jesus on the cross brought to us a number of things but the one I want to focus on today is ASSURANCE. The word assurance simply means that we can be confident of a certain result each time we come to Him.
Time and again, there are needs that come into our lives. These can vary and range from family, financial, health not only but to mention a few. When these needs come, it is important for one to have assurance, a certainty that there is someone who can bring a resolve to them.
I am reminded of a time when I was young and had just left college. The nation was going through a recession in the economy. There were no jobs. It was a great need that faced me, how was I going to survive? How would it make it in the face of all this?
Because of the assurance we have, the word here is express. Let us come “boldly” to the throne of grace. The reason for boldness is that there is assurance, the price was paid already so we can be confident. There must be no reservation or doubt! The word boldly here in the original Greek is the word parresia; which means out-spokenness, frankness or bluntness. Yes, this is the attitude we must carry in our prayers as we approach the throne of grace. Not apologetic but confident!
Why can we do this? Because of assurance of the fact that the price was paid. If we back track a bit and look at verse 14 and 15 we see the reason why we ought to be bold.
Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not a high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. (Hebrews 4:14-15 KJV)
Our High Priest, the mediator of the covenant we are in Jesus Christ is our example. He won the victory for us. As we approach, we must be confident that we will obtain mercy and find grace to help in times of need. The mercy and the grace of God matches every type of need. When you have His grace in your situation, you are guaranteed of victory. Approach today, without fear or reservation!
I pray for you that you develop the discipline to approach the throne of grace in prayer.
Thank you Lord for your mercy and grace. These are my guards for an assured future in Jesus’ name.
