I proclaimed a fast there beside the Ahava Canal, a fast to humble ourselves before our God and pray for wise guidance for our journey—all our people and possessions. (Ezra 8:21)
Ezra took over as a leader when the children of God had deteriorated into dangerous covenants with evil people. Everything was going wrong for the remnant, there was need for a leader with a heart after God. A leader desiring to see people return to God and give their hearts to Him again.
The world and its attractions can easily remove the hearts of many from their Creator. It causes many to pursue after the wrong things at the expense of their salvation. When Ezra realized that there was need for more intervention in their back to God trip, he proclaimed a fast.
A fast humbles us before God. It puts our bodies in the right place to hear the voice of God. There are some things that can only be dealt with by fasting and prayer. If you have tried praying and there seem to be no change, include fasting. This will bring about wise guidance from the Lord and also bring better covering over your life, your loved ones and your possessions.
The enemy who is after your soul is ever active, going around like a roaring lion seeking to devour you (1 Peter 5:8). He wants your life to remain stagnant with no form of progress. God Himself has made you the best, giving you the blessing of Abraham and making you an heir of the best promises (Galatians 3:14). The devil however fights against your partaking of the inheritance. You need to fight for your place through fasting and prayer.
To get to the next level, you need good guidance from God. This is going to come through fasting and prayer. Take time this week and proclaim a fast in your life. Look around you, there are things that need to change. Make the decision to bring about that change just as Ezra did. It might be your job, marriage, finances, business or whatever it is, change it today through fasting and prayer.
Declare this,
I commit myself into a season of fasting and prayer. I am determined to partake of the blessing that belongs to me. I refuse a life that is below what God appointed for me.
