“And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing.”
(1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 KJV)
There are two groups of Christians that are easy to distinguish, those who work with their hands and those that are obviously lazy! Paul in his teachings always urged people to work hard and create wealth bringing them out of poverty. In the above scripture he says study to quiet and do your own business and work with your hands. This is a commandment that he gave them and the churches he formed.
When you study to be quiet, you are giving yourself the benefit of speaking things that are edifying to your spirit man and not destroy it. Solomon says even a fool when he is quiet can be considered a wise man. When you do your own business, you grant yourself the opportunity of not meddling with other people’s things and you avoid conflict with others. Your hands are carrying a special blessing that if you unlock it, it can be a blessing not only to you but the whole world. God blesses the works of your hands. Give your hands work to do and you will see God’s goodness and fruitfulness.
For you to get to a place where you lack nothing, you have to walk honestly to all. Let people see that you deal honestly with your family and business. Let them see that you are serious about important things such as integrity. Avoid corruption and bribery, it only mars the works of your hands. You will reap nothing but vanity.
You need to self introspect and ask yourself if you pass on these three things: study to be quiet- this is study so it needs a lot of work to get there. Do your own business and I would say this you must include minding your own business. Don’t delve into other people’s matters uninvited. Ask yourself, am I walking honestly or with integrity?
I pray for you that as you self introspect and meditate on this word, your life will take a different twist and you will see God’s hand changing things around you and your life.
Declare this;
Lord Jesus I thank you for your word which directs and corrects me. I choose to follow your word as I study to be quiet, work with my own hands and to walk with integrity that I may show the world the grace that only you can give.
