And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. (Luke 16:20-21 KJV)
People often say that ‘what will be will be.’ This often true for those who accept their circumstances as their fate but throughout scripture, we see people who changed things in their lives through pure determination. There is power in desire! What you desire in life is often fulfilled whether it is positive or negative!
The story of Lazarus told by our Lord Jesus is full of lessons including the salient one on desire. Lazarus was a beggar and was daily laid at the gate of the rich man, he was full of sores. There was nothing wrong with his state of affairs but there is everything wrong with where he applied one of the most powerful forces in this world- his desire! He focused it on being fed by the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table.
The word desire means to set the heart upon, to long for or to covet a thing. Lazarus set his heart on crumbs and for sure, day in and day out he got the crumbs that fell from the table. He competed with the dogs for them and he emerged the winner every time, all the dogs could do was lick his sores.
Desire will change the game plan, it will get results everyday without fail! When Abraham desired a son, though there was a delay, at hundred years he held him in his hands. His faith jumped mountains, it conquered the impossible to get the son of his desire even when his wife was ninety years.
What is your desire? Everyone has desires but others desire more than others whilst others desire less than others. This is what separates the rich and the poor, the educated and the less educated! This separates those who sit at the table and those who eat the crumbs falling from it. If Lazarus desired to sit at the table of the rich man, his desire would have been fulfilled. If he desired to own the rich man’s table, his desire would have been fulfilled. If he desired to be the rich man, his story would completely be different.
What is your desire today? Refuse to be at the bottom of the ladder, make your desire see you at the top of the ladder. Dream big, many are at the bottom of society because their dreams are small. In whatever you do, refuse to be at the bottom of it! Desire to be at the top of that game and it will bring you fame. The word says in all labour there is profit (Pro 14:23).
I pray for you today that you find new avenues for your positive desires to be fulfilled. I pray today that I meet you at the top, the bottom is too crowded!
Declare this,
I liberate myself from poverty. I unleash my desire for greater things in life. With the help of the Holy Spirit I am headed for the top!
