But the Lord was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison. (Genesis 39:21 KJV)
Imagine you have a calling on your life and you start having dreams of these things. Your own brothers hate you and plan to kill you! Imagine they throw you into a pit and decide to sell you as a slave. Imagine arriving in a foreign land and you are sold to a stranger! Joseph had to endure all this and more.
He was now under Potiphar, a high ranking official in Egypt. In a moment, Potiphar realized that there was something special happening in his house. Since the arrival of Joseph, he started experiencing prosperity. The blessing of Abraham that was on Joseph was now operating in his house. He knew this young man had God with him. He handed him all the keys and gave him charge over everything he had. He prospered exceedingly!
Meanwhile Potiphar’s wife started to make advances towards Joseph who escaped time and again. He told her, my master has given me charge over everything except you because you are his wife. I will not sleep with you and sin against God! What an answer and what respect towards the gift of God on him. Avoidance of sin protects the blessing, willful sin blocks it. Everyday she bothered him and every day he resisted.
One day she tried and Joseph fled leaving his jacket and Potiphar’s wife cooked a lie. Listen, the devil wants your soul at any cost. Guard your salvation jealously. If he can’t get you in one area he will try another. The lie seemed to work and Joseph found himself in prison.
This is the beautiful thing, the word says, “But God was with Joseph…” If you have God, it doesn’t matter where they put you, the blessing will still manifest. In the worst Egyptian prison, Joseph experienced mercy and favour in the eyes of the prison keeper. He ended up with keys of every door in prison and prospered in there. The prison keeper retired knowing Joseph would ensure all things were well.
The blessing has no respect of nationality, color, gender nor place! As long as you are with God, there is no plan that will work against you. No curse is more powerful than the blessing. It is better to be in a physical prison than a spiritual prison so like Joseph, resist all sin that wants your blessing.
I pray for you that your eyes will be opened to the blessing that is on you. As you acknowledge it, may your circumstances change.
Declare this,
I am a seed of Abraham and through Christ I carry the blessing. With my mouth I revoke every curse upon my life and I evoke the blessing that was passed on to me at the cross.
