Weekly Meditation

From the Shepherd's Desk by Charles Magaiza

And the kinsman said, I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I mar mine own inheritance: redeem thou my right to thyself; for I cannot redeem it. (Ruth 4:6)

The story of Ruth is well known amongst Bible readers, she was a virtuous woman who chose to stick with her mother in law when she left the country of Moab.

However, my focus today is not Boaz but the relative who had the first right to take Ruth to raise an inheritance for the family. As we all know, Ruth became the mother of Obed who became the father of Jesse and Jesse the father of David and Jesus came in this lineage.

He refused to take Ruth because he would mar his inheritance but guess what, he denied a greater inheritance than what he thought he had. I feel his decision was based on pride and disobedience of the laws.

This week I encourage you to look at your own life and find those areas of pride. Areas where you disobeyed God’s word because of how you felt about what people will think about you. Take time to repent. What God presents before you might look like nothing but it holds greater things in the future.

Will you deny a Ruth because she is from Moab yet God has chosen her?
