And Balaam said unto Balak, Lo, I am come unto thee: have I now any power at all to say any thing? the word that God putteth in my mouth, that shall I speak. (Numbers 22:38 KJV)
One wishes that Balaam meant these words. He might be called and hear the voice of God but his main downfall is the love of money and elevating it above his calling. This may result in false prophecies and of course crossing wrong lines in seeking fame and money. This will also result in lies and all kinds of sin including seeking power from the enemy to advance his cause.
The Bible gives us the story of the prophet Balaam in the Old Testament. It is not conclusive as it ends with Balaam on the right side but the signs of him having ulterior motives were there to the extent the angel of the Lord would have destroyed him on his way if it wasn’t for his ass that saw and kept diverting his way.
Apostle Peter follows up this subject and says the following: 2 Peter 2:15-16
“Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man’s voice forbad the madness of the prophet.”
He shows us that Balaam loved the wages of unrighteousness but was rebuked for his iniquity. His words were in line with what God was telling him but inside his heart, he wanted the money, he was attracted by the riches. As a result, when the Lord seemed to say you may go with the Princes, he was quick to saddle his ass. Today, whatever office you hold, you might be an usher, pastor, prophet or any area of operation escape with your soul from the wages of unrighteousness. They benefit nothing. Endeavor to enter heaven yourself first before you take your followers.
Jude picks the subject and says: Jude 1:11 “Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.” Don’t preach for reward from man, let God be your rewarder! Don’t set up ministry for reward! Although Balaam was a great prophet in his time and hearing God’s voice, he is likely burning in hell. Greed is a sin strong enough to land one in hell. Refuse for the enemy to lead you this way.
This must also speak to you as an individual. Open your eyes and see these marks of a false prophet, pastor or preacher and escape with your life. I pray for you that the Lord would open your eyes to see what to stand for and who to follow leading your soul to heaven.
Declare this,
Today I open my eyes and give myself over to God’s word. I will follow what the word says and not just look to man. I open my inner ears to hear the voice of the Spirit to know where deception is.
